What an honour it was to be asked to go to Parliament to help the RHS launch the Ornamental Horticulture Roundtable Action Plan.
Check me out !!!
Well it’s certainly gone cold this week and yesterday I enjoyed the first bit of snow of the year at Brockholes Nature Reserve. It’s a fantastic place and really family friendly. I love it, because it’s great for wildlife.
I was soooo lucky to spot a bittern (one of the rarest birds in Britain) – they are really hard to see – this was the first one my Dad’s ever seen too. As we were leaving Brockholes, ‘I smell winter’ by The Housemartins was playing on the CD player, which is where the title of this week’s blog came from.
Despite the cold, damp wintry weather I’ve had a fab weekend and today (Sunday) I invited my mate, Dec round to play in the garden.
We checked out the tree house in the muddy top garden; played catapult in the fallen down tree and had a mess about with old pipes and wood.
I have been visiting Chatsworth House since I was a baby and it’s one of my favourite places in the whole world. When I went to RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May 2015 and got the opportunity to meet the Duke of Devonshire at Dan Pearson’s Show Garden I jumped at the chance to tell him how much I loved his house.
I couldn’t believe it when he invited me to visit the gardens with Steve Porter, the Head Gardener and his team; it was a dream come true. And so, on 30th December I had 5 ½ hours of ‘AWESOMENESS‘ working at Chatsworth House Gardens.
Had the best day EVER yesterday at Chatsworth House working alongside the Gardening Team. I will write up the whole day very soon, but here’s the bestest bit !
I was so happy to finish school today. Christmas is a time to relax and to hang out with your family. If you are bored, get out into the garden and do a few jobs, like clearing leaves or cleaning your tools and plant pots.
In May, at Chelsea Flower Show I was really lucky to meet a real astronaut. Here’s a photo of me at the RHS Campaign for School Gardening exhibition stall, where they launched (like a rocket!) their Rocket Science campaign.
The space team was interviewed by Newsround; I was too
Tim Peake blasts off to the International Space Station in the next few days and is the first British Astronaut, EVER. Continue reading
This is the sort of thing I have done for 6 years with Operation Farm. I’m a member, a young volunteer for them.
Today I have run a stall making stars out of dogwood and loom bands – Sarah my gardening teacher popped down to remind me how they are made. Continue reading
Me and the gardening gang at school have put most of the allotment to sleep for the winter; we have harvested and weeded most of the beds .
Some of the younger children at school have planted some winter wheat to see if it grows. Another class have planted the garlic to overwinter and finish growing next spring/summer. Continue reading
….you have to buy some; so we went to Unicorn Grocery today in Chorlton.
My Dad delivers organic veg there and it’s one of my Mum’s favourite shops.
