Up to now freezin’ February has been a whole lotta fun!

The freezing cold February weather might have stopped us spending loads of time in the garden, but it hasn’t stopped me from getting out and about this month.

I think we’ve had every kind of weather already this month – snow, hail, plenty of rain and even a touch of sun yesterday!

RHS Grassroots article

I was asked just before Christmas to write an article for the RHS magazine, Grassroots, all about my volunteer work for local community group, Operation Farm.

The magazine was published this week, have a read, I’m on page 15

My Mum started Operation Farm with some friends and this year they hope to do some more work with the Young Operation Farmers around gardening, cooking, protecting wildlife and environmental issues. They are writing a plan and if they get some dosh (funding) I’ll be sure to help with that project!

Let’s Go Club

Last year I filmed a clip for CBeebies, called The Let’s Go Club in the Blue Peter Garden. It was on TV on Saturday, you can catch it on iPlayer and I’m on at 11:20mins (available until 10.03.18). I hope the clip inspired some kids to give gardening a go.

I started gardening when I was about 4 and growing something like strawberries, with tots is a really rewarding thing to do, as the plant is quite big for little hands to handle, the flowers are really pretty and we all know the berries are as sweet as honey!

Compost Treasure

Last week I had a really kind donation from Ian at Woodview Gardens, he sent me all different kinds of compost samples, including Remin volcanic rock dust (sounds well cool), which amongst many things is great for wormeries (more about wormeries coming soon)! He also gave me some really great growing tips. Once I start planting in the next few months I’ll be posting some updates – cheers Ian!

RHS Campaign for School Gardening

There’s still time to enter the RHS Young School Gardener of the Year Competition – or maybe you could nominate your teacher or someone you work with in the community; it’s always worth giving it a go!

It’s been Children’s Mental Health week and I wrote this post a few months back on how gardening can help to make you feel free. At times, school, tests and homework can stress me out, but once I’m outside all my anxieties just blow away; it’s like magic!

Buddy

Buddy is doing really well and now that he’s 9 months old, we’ve allowed him a bit more freedom in the house, when we’re not in. We’re only out for a couple of hours at a time and this week he’s stolen:

a tea towel, pair of washing up gloves, hand towel, hair roller, 3 DVDs, a plastic truck, my PE shorts, lots of socks, he loves socks! Mum’s scarf and shoes, 4 plastic bags, my Dad’s hat, gloves and work boots and the ‘piece de la resistance’, he ate a full box of eggs!! Didn’t he do well !!

I have to say though, he’s a great dog, he’s got a lovely nature and he’s really bright and most of all,    I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HIM ♥♥

Next blog….

I’m just writing up my next blog, about going to RSPB Old Moor nature reserve with my Dad – it was absolutely superb!

Hope you had a great weekend guys!
