Does Art Make Children Powerful? Well, I like the thought of expressing yourself with art, your imagination can go wild and trust me, I’m not short of imagination!
I like gardening, I like wildlife, I like chocolate and I also like outdoor sculptures. So, it was great to get a bit of fresh air during the Christmas break at Yorkshire Sculpture Park
I’ve been going to YSP once or twice a year since I was 4, when I visited with primary school; there’s the regular sculptures that are there all the time and then the temporary ones that are there for a few months.
It’s a great place to walk around too. We always head down to the river looking for wildlife and checking out the old, knobbly shaped trees, reeds and bulrushes. I got to see my first ever kingfisher here once, just near the bridge, but I think all the wildlife was tucked in yesterday due to the cold and frozen lake. However, we did see some waterfowl, including a teal, pochard and geese and of course everyone’s favourite festive bird, a robin! Also, as we arrived we heard a woodpecker and later a nuthatch – that was the thing, I think because of the weather conditions the sounds travelled through the air.
It was a perfect day for a walk; the low winter sun was dazzling and the ground was crunchy and frozen solid. The lake almost looked like glitter as parts were frozen and I had the best time throwing stones from the bridge onto the surface and listening to the ‘whizzing’ noise it created. It’s beautiful, I just love days like that, so clear and crisp.
As the sun set we warmed up with a hot chocolate from the café and had a mooch in the cracking shop
I hope I’ve inspired you to get out and enjoy the fresh air this Christmas.
That’s a lovely post George. Really expressive and very well written. I’m looking forward to lots of good stuff in the New Year.

Looks lovely George, I love winter, somehow I think we see more garden birds then, may be because they need food but it is so lovely to see them, Robin’s are my favourite.

I like robins too Joan they always seem a bit cheeky to me
We’ve not seen much wildlife on our travels, but I think I saw a sparrowhawk on Christmas Day
Hope you had a good Christmas from George
