I went to a very important meeting this week with the other RHS Ambassadors.

It was at the RHS headquarters in London; we talked about how we can help to ‘get the nation gardening!”

The meeting was held in the beautiful historic Lindley Building, it was all glass, wood and  sweeping staircases and right in the middle was a glass lift like the one off Charlie and The Chocolate Factory! The room where the meeting was held was quite impressive too, with wood panelled walls and portraits of past presidents on the wall. Waiters were serving very posh drinks, but they didn’t have Vimto – they need to sort that out!!

Sue Biggs the Director General of the RHS welcomed us all and started the meeting by giving us an update on The RHS Vision, you can read all about it here. They are spending lots of money on making the RHS Gardens better, including Wisley and Harlow Carr and of course the new one in Manchester, RHS Bridgewater. Whilst Sue talked about other projects too, she made it very clear that the money they want to spend is all about the future – about getting kids to get involved in gardening and perhaps choose horticulture as a career – and that’s why myself and Jamie Butterworth have been chosen as RHS Ambassadors to represent the next generation of gardeners – what an honour!

It was great to meet Baroness Floella Benjamin

Floella will “work with the RHS to inspire the next generation of gardeners to build happier, healthier communities”

She is such a lovely lady and has the most beautiful voice and her husband was born in the same town as me, my Mum and Grandma – what a coincidence!

It was great to catch up with Jamie Butterworth

Jamie “will share his passion for horticulture and getting secondary school children involved in gardening.”

I’ve met Jamie loads of times, he’s top and I’m really looking forward to working with him on a garden one day! He told us about his recent visit to Spain to look at plants for flower shows next year – what a job!

It was great meeting Professor Nigel Dunnett for the first time

Nigel will “promote the work of the RHS in the whole field of urban greening, and to represent the RHS ‘Greening Grey Britain’ campaign at a national and international level.”

Nigel has a cool job, designing gardens and I know he’s involved in some BIG projects, including RHS Garden Harlow Carr!

It was great to meet Jekka McVicar and her healing hands!

Jekka is  “supporting the RHS to promote the health and wellbeing benefits of horticulture”

Jekka grows over 300 herbs – pretty awesome eh!

During the lunch I felt a bit sickly, so Jekka used her healing hands to help me feel better!

It was great to meet northern gardener, Carol Klein

Carol “is to be an ambassador for the new fifth garden, RHS Garden Bridgewater in Salford, Greater Manchester and will be working with the RHS to champion the Garden as it evolves and eventually opens to the public in 2019.”

I watch Carol sometimes on Gardener’s World so I was really excited to meet her. She’s from ‘up north’ too and I can’t wait to go and have a look at RHS Bridgewater with her one day

It was really nice to sit next to Chris Beardshaw

Chris is “supporting the RHS to promote community gardening.”

He had just come from Great Ormond St Hospital, where he had designed a garden. We talked about community gardening and I told him all about my work  Operation Farm.

He said me and my Mum & Dad had the perfect team – Me as the gardener, My Dad as the landscaper (builder) and my Mum as the cook

It was great to talk to Nick Knowles

Nick will,  “work with the RHS to encourage more community groups to get gardening”

It was great to talk to him about his projects in Manchester – he said I should go down and help him with a garden build one day!

Things like this are such an amazing opportunity for an 11 year old kid like me – the food, the room, the people were all amazing. I had such a great time talking about all the things I’ve done and want to do in the future. It really helped me understand my job as an RHS Ambassador

Having arrived in London the day before, me and my Mum went for a lovely autumn walk to Buckingham Palace. I’ve never been before and I was intrigued by the guards – how they marched and stood so still for such a long time. My favourite London birds, ring necked parakeets, were flying overhead against the clear blue skies, whilst we sat and had a coffee in Green Park #TopDay
